This World Environment Day, it’s time for nature

As a global platform for inspiring change, today World Environment Day is encouraging us, as a society, to raise our voices #ForNature. Hosted by Columbia, the global #ForNature themed initiative welcomes millions of supporters from governments, businesses and communities to speak out for the environment and think about how and what they consume.

With biodiversity at the core of this year’s event, here at the Aura Innovation Centre (AIC), we reflect on how we can inspire positive change and come together in both business and everyday life to motivate change by each one of us – to reduce our carbon footprint.

The Aura Innovation Centre (AIC), which has been part funded by the European Regional Development Fund and supported by Green Port Hull, the Regional Growth Fund and East Riding of Yorkshire Council, is delivered by the University of Hull to connect businesses to researchers and academia to help develop and bring innovations to life.

We all have a role to play in protecting the environment and its biodiversity

Described as the variety of life on Earth, no matter how big or small, each species contributes both in the communities that they form and the habitats in which they live. At the AIC, we’re challenging businesses to think differently; to innovate, to collaborate and come together to find sustainable solutions, which in turn will stimulate societal change in working towards a greener planet to protect our future generations.

And we’re already making a difference

Since our launch, we’ve collaborated with 28 businesses to accelerate green ideas and innovate low-carbon solutions by connecting companies with academic expertise at the University of Hull and giving them access to ground-breaking research and facilities.

We’re helping give agriculture waste a new purpose and new profits

We’ve secured funding support for M. Meadley & Sons, to provide a sustainable solution to reduce waste and enhance their business returns simultaneously. By developing a greener model, we’re helping to reduce greenhouse gases and minimise landfill, whilst finding viable commercialisation opportunities. You can read the full story here.

Giving businesses the green light

To celebrate World Environment Day and as part of #OneHumber week, we delivered a specialist webinar this morning in partnership with our sister brand the Flood Innovation Centre. We’re encouraging regional businesses to grow and strengthen their organisation through environmentally friendly products, services and processes.

Worldwide initiatives such as World Environment Day, give an ever-important platform for us to raise our voice and to speak out #ForNature – both on a personal level and from a holistic organisational point of view. As we move forward, we’re always looking for ways in which we can progress green ideas, and we’re always interested to hear from businesses.

Let’s work together to create a better world for our future generations, to make our planet a greener place and to protect the precious ecosystems that thrive within it. Get involved with World Environment Day and see how you can make a change today. It’s our responsibility to make small changes which lead to bigger transformations.

If you’d like to find out more about the AIC and what we offer, feel free to watch our film and of course, follow us on social media.
