We recently welcomed the finalists of the local Young Enterprise campaign to the Aura Innovation Centre.
Young Enterprise is a national charity which motivates young people to succeed in the changing world of work by equipping them with the work skills, knowledge and confidence they need to succeed.
During an action packed day of activities, the North Humber Young Enterprise finalist teams had the chance to pitch their business ideas to a panel of top businesspeople.
The judges looked at the innovation and creativity of the company each team had come up with, how well the enterprise was run, the team journey, how challenges were overcome, and the impact and legacy of each team. This was assessed through a company report the students wrote, a team interview, and a presentation.
Five teams from Hymers College, Pocklington School and Malet Lambert School made the final, with ideas ranging from eco-friendly socks to mental health apps to bespoke keyboards.
The teams set up stalls in our large Technology Demonstrator area, then were grilled by the judges. After a quick lunch, they were given time to practice their presentations in our conference rooms, before facing an audience of around 80 people as they presented their company reports.
Winning team ‘Bosh Bottles’ from Pocklington School then progress to regional finals, and from there could make the national final – good luck!
