We’ll be welcoming to the stage (or should we say couch) some fantastic Humber SMEs, hearing their success stories and meeting the people behind the scenes who helped make their green innovation ideas a reality. You’ll also meet some of the region’s most forward-thinking business leaders and key industry players, who will share what they’re doing to embrace green practices.

Emma Hardy | MP | West Hull and Hessle

Emma Hardy is from East Riding – a few miles from the seat of Hessle and West Hull that she now represents. Before becoming an MP, Emma was a teacher, an organiser for the National Union of Teachers and served as Deputy General Secretary of the Socialist Educational Association. Emma is currently Shadow Minister for Further Education and Universities.

 

Kathryn Sowerby | Managing Director | LEVEL Systems Ltd

After 12 years working as an Industrial Chemist and 15 years in the Social Enterprise sector, Kathryn set up her company, LEVEL Systems, providing specialist Health, Safety and Environmental services to the UKs manufacturing industry. Kathryn’s clients include Engineering, Joinery, Construction and Food Processing companies, Foundries, Quarries and Mineral producers.

 

Jan Brumby | Chief Executive | For Entrepreneurs Only

Jan is very proud to lead FEO, a group of like-minded Entrepreneurs who collectively turn over £3.3bn and employ 23,000 people. It’s Jan’s and FEO’s mission to help entrepreneurs to start, adapt and grow. Jan is a holder of The Queen’s Award for Enterprise Promotion and is also the President of Hessle Theatre Company.

 


Rob Meadley | Farmer | M Meadley & Sons 

I am a partner in a 600 acre family farming business near Driffield. We grow a variety of combinable crops as well as vining peas. We are currently looking at many aspects of our business as UK agriculture faces many changes. I also work an agricultural business consultant for Brown & Co.

 


Lloyd Atkin | Managing Director | The Bio-D Company Ltd

Lloyd Atkin is Managing Director of Bio-D, a manufacturer of ethically and environmentally responsible cleaning products. After 12 years with the business, helping grow it from a two-man sales office into a full-blown manufacturer, Lloyd went through a Management buyout in 2010 and now owns the business in full.

 


Kris Robinson | Commercial Director | Kingston Modular Systems and Park & Leisure Homes

Kris is a family man, born and bred in Hull & East Riding, married and a proud father of three adult children.  He is a co-founder of Kingston, manufacturer of high-quality modular buildings and park & leisure homes, which has over the last 12 months been able to supply modular buildings to the NHS.

 

 

Beckie Hart | Regional Director, Yorkshire and the Humber | CBI

As the CBI’s director for Yorkshire and the Humber, Beckie Hart is responsible for managing and developing relationships with a wide range of organisations and stakeholders; recruiting new CBI members; and central and regional lobbying. Beckie additionally oversees the principal representative CBI body in the region, the Regional Council.

 

 

Phil Benson | Entrepreneur

Phil Benson is a serial entrepreneur. A graduate in International Business, Phil cut his teeth within the food and drink industry moving on to diversify his business interests into education, retail, creative industries and tech. Phil has assisted start-ups, in addition to teaching entrepreneurship to the next generation in schools. He has operated on a number of boards in the public, charitable and private sectors. With a keen interest in tech and advocate for business with positive social impact, Phil Co-Founded UKBlackTech, delivering innovation through diversity.

 

Dawn Hall | Business Support Services Manager | ERYC

Over 25 years’ experience working with, supporting, and advising businesses in their development. Most recently specifically supporting businesses to make the most of supply chain opportunities within the renewables Industry, through the Green Port project, which saw over £250m of renewable contracts being awarded in the region.

 

 

Andy Parkinson | Chief Executive | Lampada Digital Systems

Andy has a varied background as a senior executive, having worked across many sectors for a diverse mix of organisations including telecoms giant KCOM. He founded and ran strategy and digital innovation consultancy, Quantum Insight, and is a Director of C4DI.  Andy was also the lead for Hull’s City Plan – designed to help the city recover from the 2008 recession.

 

Sarah Clark | Operations Manager | Aura

Sarah is a project management professional and former business owner with over 20 years’ experience managing a range of publicly funded business support programmes.

 

 

Louise Smith | Director | Aura

Louise is Director of Aura and its brand-new Innovation Centre at Bridgehead near Hull, set in the heart of the Humber. She is a strong advocate for the Humber, having spent the last 20 years working on projects in the region – for BP, Total, Ineos, Nippon Gohsei and Vivergo. She has worked on some of the largest and ground-breaking energy projects in the UK over the years, including carbon capture and biofuels.

 

Maggie Johnson | Inward Investment Manager | North East Lincolnshire Council

Maggie has worked for North East Lincolnshire Council for 11 years, working with businesses on capital projects, investments and development.  She is co-ordinator for the Grimsby Renewables partnership and involved in the South Humber Industrial Investment Programme, an innovative project to unlock development land for investment.
